Following the devastating flooding caused by the spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams, approximately 26,000 individuals have been displaced in six districts across the Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions. The severity of this situation has prompted widespread public concern.

As members of the infrastructure community in Ghana, we are committed to supporting the emergency response efforts and contribute to the ongoing recovery process. To this end, we have mobilized four specialist teams to carry out a rapid assessment of the situation to facilitate public understanding and contribution to the response and recovery efforts.

Team Alpha is working on the creation of inundation maps in order to gain a better understanding of the extent of the flooding. These maps will identify the specific geographical areas, assets, and populations that have been most significantly affected.

Team Beta is conducting rapid assessments to estimate the environmental and social consequences of the flooding. By establishing essential baseline information, this analysis will effectively guide our post-disaster restoration efforts.

Team Charlie is evaluating the immediate water and sanitary needs of the affected communities, while also examining potential health risks. This rapid assessment will enable us to estimate and recommend the necessary relief items and quantities required for the affected communities.

Lastly, Team Delta is identifying and assessing the potential impact on various categories of infrastructure assets present in the affected areas. This crucial information will enable us to recommend essential safety precautions for the reentry and reuse of these facilities.
