This paper explores the innovative use of palm kernel shells (PKS), a waste product from Ghana’s palm oil industry, as a sustainable alternative to traditional aggregates in road construction. The research demonstrates that substituting up to 50% of granite with PKS can produce road components that are strong enough for non-load-bearing uses like sub-base layers, walkways, and low-traffic rural roads. This approach not only helps manage agricultural waste and reduce environmental impact but also lowers material costs and encourages local sourcing, promoting a circular economy in Ghana.
