In our final session of the Knowledge and Experience seminar Vol.1 No.20, we had the privilege of being led in Cyber Security Awareness training by the esteemed Mr Divine Tsa.

Throughout his presentation, Mr Tsa emphasized the paramount importance of safeguarding information assets from unauthorized access. He shed light on the triad of confidentiality, integrity, and availability, which serves as the foundation of cybersecurity.

Diving deeper into the African context, Mr Tsa identified the top three threats affecting businesses in our region: malware, phishing, and insider threats. He underscored the significance of focusing on vulnerabilities to effectively manage cyber risk.

Drawing attention to the delicate balance between security and convenience, Mr Tsa highlighted the grave impact of insider threats on organizations. He provided an in-depth overview of the different types of threat actors and their motivations, ranging from financial gain to political or social change.

Additionally, Mr Tsa took the time to educate the audience on various types of malware, their characteristics, and the symptoms of infection. He comprehensively covered the topic of phishing, shedding light on its various forms and the manipulative tactics employed by attackers.

To promote safe browsing and authentication, Mr Tsa shared a multitude of best practices, including updating web browsers and plugins, verifying URLs to avoid malicious sites, and utilizing antivirus solutions and firewalls.

Lastly, Mr Tsa delved into the crucial aspects of incident response planning, stressing the importance of preparation, identification, and containment. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan, including a dedicated team and an up-to-date contact list.

Overall, this session provided a wealth of knowledge and insights into cybersecurity. We thank Mr Divine Tsa for his expertise and guidance in equipping us with the necessary tools to mitigate cyber risks.
